Prefabricated Wastewater Package System at National Maintenance Facility

Technologists, Inc. (Ti) designed, renovated, and upgraded the Afghan National Army’s National Maintenance Facility in Kabul, a central workshop for the army’s vehicles, weapons, and communications equipment. The upgraded facility uses advanced technology to reduce the time that essential military vehicles are out of service awaiting repair.

Ti designed and constructed two separate sewer collection systems: one for industrial waste and another for domestic waste. The industrial waste system consists of a gravity sewer system and holding tank. The domestic sewer collection system is connected to a wastewater treatment package plant known as a Complete Mix/Extended Aeration Activated Sludge system.

The system can treat as much as 100,000 gallons of wastewater per day. Due to space limitations at the site, the system uses glass-lined steel tanks and a filter press to produce sludge cake that is removed from the facility by truck.

Following treatment the facility’s wastewater was clean enough to return to the Kabul River.
