Sherzad Hydro Dam Survey and Design
Technologists, Inc. (Ti) conducted engineering studies in three mountain villages in Nangarhar Province—Sherzad, Khogyani, and Deh Bala—to determine the feasibility of installing micro-hydropower plants in local streams. The studies were used to design systems capable of generating from 10 to 30 kilowatts of electricity, depending on water flow.
In many Afghan villages, these systems are sufficient to provide nearby households with electric power for operating lights and small appliances. The systems are inexpensive and simple to maintain, yet provide a major convenience to local residents of these remote communities.
